SEATTLE ART MUSEUM, RYOKUSUIAN TEAHOUSE
The 3-mat tearoom, Arbor of Green Reflecting Waters, is the setting for monthly
chado demonstrations from February-November, except August, on third
Thursdays at 6:30PM and third Sundays at 2:30 PM. Demonstrations last
approximately 40 minutes. Free with reservations.

Demonstrations are presented by Seizankai, a group of tea practitioners of
various traditions of chado. For information about joining Seizankai please

Inside the teahouse: Chado Presentations
(Best of the City 2009 and Best of the
West 2010)
Sunday and weekday introductory chado presentations lasting approximately 40
minutes are presented by Urasenke Foundation of Seattle. Tea tickets are $10
and may be purchased at the
Garden ticket booth. Reservations are
recommended as seating is limited to 10 participants. Business attire or kimono
is customary. Jeans, bare feet, heavy perfume and rings are avoided.  Sundays,
March-November; Weekdays, June-August.

Outside the teahouse: Chado Demonstrations
Saturday chado tea demonstrations lasting approximately 40 minutes are
presented by Shoseikai.* No reservations are required as visitors view the
demonstration from the patio.  The demonstrations are free, however, a $10 tea
ticket may be purchased at the Garden ticket booth to enjoy a bowl tea and
sweets. Saturdays, April-October.

*Shoseikai is comprised of tea practitioners of various traditions of chado. For
information about joining Shoseikai please contact Urasenke Foundation of
Seattle.
Introduction to CHADO, the Way of Tea
Seattle offers many opportunities to experience Japan's vibrant tea culture. A
visit to the Seattle Art Museum or the Washington Park Arboretum Japanese
Garden provides an opportunity to explore the artistic, social and spiritual
threads of Chado to engage the body, mind and spirit.
